What did they think was going to make the money for them?

'Stop spending £6m+ a year on moving the fucking seats and all of a sudden it loses a lot less money.'

The operating loss for 2022 was £44 million, and they didn't even move any seats.

The significant element in all of this is that the structure was built as a temporary construction - in the immediate aftermath, the whole upper sections were to be removed, it did not even hold an internal press area

So factor that into a 99 year lease with the maintenance of the whole sorry edifice to the lessors account

The bloody place is an abject liability as it stands and anyone buying that alone would need their head swiveled - £200m and losses incurred, you are having a laugh

'It needs lots of work but can be turned into a cash cow'

It really can't. Not unless you mean as apartments in 90 years time.

For WH it's a no-brainer. They (whichever 'they' that might be) will get it for peanuts, then they'll have all of the income (beer, corporate, naming, everything) and dispense with a lot of the expenditure.

With some reasonable/serious investment it could be even more profitable, which is what we have to keep our fingers crossed for.

The stadium only lmakez virtually no money owing to the layout and management. It needs lots of work but can be turned into a cash cow. Dependa on whether we get chance to and whether someone wants to spend the money.

Charging £7 for shit beer is not the way forward

“massively increase the value of the club on the market when the owners want to sell”

Why?

Its an asset most likely losing money.

The stadium is for fans. It makes a fraction of the income of other income streams.

Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
I can see West Ham buying it at some point or more likely taking it off their hands to stem the losses.
There is no way the owners will jump in and offer anything like it's worth. There isn't a queue to take on it's debt and financial commitments.
The main reason I think it will happen isn't anything to do with generating more money, we know that we have a great deal currently but it will massively increase the value of the club on the market when the owners want to sell. None of these owners are in it for taking West Ham to trophies, we are an investment.

Roof is a temporary one that was originally due to come down more than 10 years ago. It needs serious rebuilding

When you're this ignorant it might be better to keep schtum.
Really mugged yourself off there.

Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
Something to consider IF say Kretinsky or other get a deal done with LLDC for West Ham to own the Stadium prices will go up due to higher costs and redevelopment improvements probably aligned closer to the Spurs model with more tourists, daytrippers and the caviar jet set Hooray Henry Henley Regatta brigade with straw hats and stripped jacket packing out the corporate boxes.

IF we carry on renting tickets will only need to go up with inflation unless we are in top four, fat chance. We have cheapest tickets in PM currently and all us oi polloi can carry on rolling up living the champagne lifestyle on a lemonade budget watching overpaid foreign mercenaries and dull as dishwater negative defensive northern monkey managers working on mid table budgets.

Either way we will won't be lubbed up and forced to bite the pillow.

To be honest the contract is really the fucker for them. The original decision not to include a football club in the future use was imbecilic. It was all happy clappy middle class nonsense.

All because of the 'no football at the stadium' snobbery.

Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
them.

Also, does that article quote a figure of £200m to buy the stadium and cover the losses? Why the fuck are we covering their losses? they should be grateful that we’re prepared to take it off their hands as that would save them £570-£950m over the next 95 years in conversion costs alone.

Rounded up figures quoted £20m conversion costs per annum x 100 years lease = £2bn. Then rent at £3.5m for 100 years £350m (without inflation linked uplift), would be x 2/3/4? at market rate producing a massive saving IF they could get out of the lease (deal of the century), BUT the only way is to buy the lease back but they won't get government funding too costly, controversial and publicity. They will have to wipe all debts, sell it for £1, pay of UK Athletics, make a large final contribution towards converting their Athletics Stadium to football only Stadium fit for purpose including paying the costs of removing the running track, underwrite all reduced future losses regards policing/stewards and other for a number of years. They have no choice if they want to deal with it, otherwise they will be just kicking the can down the road and running up more debt.

Not to mention that the losses not only have an impact on cash flow, they are also a factor for FFP.

They'd be mad to buy it.

Westside 12:16 Thu Mar 30
Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
They would be mad not to buy it, the appreciation in value over the next 10-20 years will be MIND BOGGLING.

Even if the appreciation, outweighed the running costs, of what benefit would the appreciation be to West Ham?
